About St James

Join us at our Historic Chapel and Hall

We are located adjacent to downtown Payette in Idaho about 45 minutes outside the Boise metro area and near the border of Ontario, Oregon.  Our mission is to help the community by continuing to restore our stunning historic chapel, hall and small-group retreat center which is in the National Register of Historic places.  We also provide community space at free or discounted rates to community organizations as well as space for retreats.

To date, we have held clergy formation retreats as well as craft/knitting retreats and we are open to new retreat ideas. In addition, we have continued the prison ministry of years past by hiring and helping former inmates.  They have helped us restore our historic church.

Our primary source of funding is through use of the building for parties, weddings, showers, and other events. We can accommodate small groups of up to 75 people.  Within a few steps of St James you will find quaint downtown Payette, two community parks, and three major rivers offering scenic recreation.  Ten minutes away from St James, there are many hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment options.

St James offers a commercial kitchen, a 1000sf banquet hall and an historic neo-gothic chapel.

Any donations you would like to offer to support our facility are tax deductible and support the ongoing efforts to preserve our Historic Landmark chapel. We have 501(c)(3) non-profit status.

From religious retreats, small group gatherings, bible studies, meditation groups, and community meetings, we offer a unique and beautiful opportunity for your gathering.

Our History

St. James Church is a building formerly known as St James Episcopal Church.  We continue to partner with the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho to provide weekend retreat space.

Although we continue as a church, we will no longer be holding weekly Sunday services. Instead, we prefer small group settings held by different people for the purpose of religious education, rejuvenation, support, mediation and art.  We are open to community ideas.
